Join as a student
Master’s students at York University and the University of Iceland can complete the Ecological Footprint Initiative training program focused on sustainability informatics. This comprehensive training program includes the chance to co-produce an edition of the National Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts. Additionally, students can choose to focus their master’s research on applications and methodologies of Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity.
PhD students at both universities can complete the training program and focus their thesis/dissertation on Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity research. The research and applications students undertake related to Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity will be supported by diverse partners that have expertise and skills in many areas. To enter the IEFLL partnership as a student, one must first be admitted to York University’s Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change or the University of Iceland’s Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources.

Join as a partner
The partnership is accepting new partners and collaborators. IEFLL partners and collaborates with academic and non-academic institutions, including research institutions, corporations, non-profits, and the public sector. Joining IEFLL offers access to the national Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts, including micro-level data on the embodied Ecological Footprint of specific traded commodities. This rich dataset also offers aggregated and disaggregated data on commodity production and consumption, and on the Ecological Footprint at the national level. This data can also be scaled to other levels, such as the individual level, and is relevant to land use and land cover policy. In addition to access to data, joining IEFLL also offers expertise and frameworks for understanding economic-ecological relationships and methodologies for measuring regenerative capacity.
To sign on as an IEFLL partner, you need a signed letter of support from your institution or organization. An individual can also join IEFLL as a collaborator without an organization.
